This case has been a topic of much discussion between Tony and I. We both agreed that
a). Each person behaved badly probably due to them all being intoxicated. b). The sentencing was inconsistant with the 2 blokes both having had sex with drunk girl and only one convicted.
c). If the girl was that drunk then memory black-outs are not uncommon.
d). This issue of consent is difficult as both parties should be responsible for ensuring that consent is mutual. However, that choice is completely cross-wired when drunk - as alcohol makes a person horny/lack inhibitions/have black-outs with no memories and all. 3 states of mind that do not bode well when put together.
I made plenty of knuckle bitingly embarrassing and highly regretted sexual choices when I was drunk as a young woman but the fact that I had drunk heroic quantities of lager, got silly and horny and not shy (whereas sober I was very shy indeed), doesn't make someone else rseponsible for my actions if you see what I mean.
Evans and his buddies behaved really sleazily - but one shouldn't get 5 years in prison for it.

Oh yes indeedy......... I remember that sort of behaviour well
However as Izzy pointed out, the guy who was convicted left by the fire escape and not through the front door. To me that suggests he had something to hide and didn't want to be seen. Why not if it was just a jolly jape/prank where all had a jolly good time???
