  • Indeterminate Public Protection Orders

I have prepared a petition regarding these draconian sentences and wonder if anyone would sign it.

The petition can be found at
    http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/Indeterminate/

Obviously I would only want people to sign it who agree with the content. I can tell you that I know someone who got an 18-month tariff on one of these orders and is still in prison nearly four years later. He has maintained his innocence throughout the incarceration and is being punished more harshly by the parole board because of this. I have no doubt that he is innocent of the charges and it obviously makes us all feel hopeless.

Please sign the petition if you can.

    Thanks

Thank you Mary for this petition.

I have alerted a newsletter for the falsely accused that goes into prisons.

I have also pinned it to the private forum I run specifically for those who are protesting their innocence of sexual offences.

It is such a shame you have put a finishing date of the end of October - this is not long enough to get enough signatures to make the Government sit up and take notice. Not that they will of course as they always seem to whitewash over our e-petitions.

However anything is worth a go.

Maybe you should get in touch with the local Conservative or Liberal party where the Minister of Justice is MP and start to give them some ammunition to fight the next election on the corruptness and ineptitude of their current MP?

Unfortunately I think you might find they all close rank and none of them would be interested no matter what party they represent. After all we are always told not to talk to the IPCC media/press and our MP.

there must be some MPs out there who actually care about whats going on in this country and its disfunctional judicial system.

        Hi Mary May

You will see that others have signed this petition. I don't know though if you have allowed enough time for sufficient people to sign the petition. Hopefully enough will sign to get a response but I fear that this will be the usual whitewash.

I PM'd you. Hope you got it!

          Petition

I still need a lot more signatures please.

I heard from the Minister of Justice today that the government has no intention of releasing the short tariff IPP prisoners - they seem to have no sense of justice and fair play!

Can it be right and proper to take a person's previous offences retrospectively to create an IPP but then not make their new related legislation retrospective to release the affected people? You cannot be sentenced to an IPP with less than 2 years tariff now so why are the short tariff prisoners not being released - the government seems to have no explanation - they just say it is not retrospective.

          Please sign:

People from the private forum have also signed. I also sent it around other support groups and no doubt some of their members have signed.

Unfortunately you cannot make people sign a petition if they don't want to.

Accumulating more signatures will not make one iota of difference unfortunately. If it did the Government would have to admit that they had stuffed up big time and they are nto about to do that, unless the "right people" in the "right places" sit up and take notice. I doubt they even know about this petition.

Petitions have been sent to the Government relating to the Criminal "Justice" System for years and I have yet to see one of them be properly considered.

but if people don't try to change things - then they never will.

perhaps one time when someone hits their head against the wall, it may be heard.

If only!!!! How many petitions have we signed on PAFAA - all good common sense but with no real answers - just the usual whitewash. Something would have to happen to one of the law lords before anything will get done I am sure of that. They just do not believe how easy it is to put innocent people into prison. Or how difficult it is to get them out. Most appeals succeed after the accused has served his time.

true, apart from a couple of good 'uns in parliament they don't seem to take any notice of the electorate.

                      IPPs

Thanks for all the comments - we must try to be positive - who are the one or two 'good uns'? Please tell me who they are and I will contact them.

Does anyone know any of the law lords who might take notice?

Please help me to stay positive.
