Cheating Wife Jailed for Crying Rape

An unfaithful wife has been jailed for 12 months after crying rape to cover up a night of passion with a stranger.

Merete Underwood, who abandoned her husband and young son during an evening out, panicked when she realised her one night stand had resulted in a missing person's report to police.

So she promptly pointed the finger of suspicion at her unfortunate lover to prevent her husband discovering the truth.

The alleged rapist, a distraught interior designer, not only spent 24 hours in a cell but then had the prospect of prosecution hanging over him for three months, London's Middlesex Guildhall Crown Court was told.

Even after his 32-year-old blonde accuser was charged with perverting the course of justice, she continued to lie for a further year.

It was only as the jury was about to be sworn in to try her that the Norwegian national, of Kingston, south-west London, finally confessed.

Underwood, who is now being divorced by her husband Toby, wept as the judge said her last minute plea of guilty and previous good character could not save her from jail.

Earlier, Joanne Hacking, prosecuting, told the court that the evening of February 25 last year began innocently enough when Underwood and her two-year-old son met her husband after he had finished work.

A few drinks in one pub was followed by several more in another. But then Underwood gave her husband the slip to enjoy a night of passion with a man she later admitted chatting up in a wine bar.

She cried rape when her worried husband called the police after Underwood failed to return home that evening.

Interesting that they point out she is blonde. I'm blonde. What does it matter?

it doesn't matter at all. It's merely press sensationalism.
when my husband was sent to prison for a crime he did not commit, i was described in the papers as follows: "his young blonde wife sobbed loudly from the public gallery..."

The RAF helicopter pilot who was recently cleared of indecent assault was described as "dashing", and there were photographs of his lotus elise sportscar. As if someone who is goodlooking and drives a sportcar is more likely to sexually assault a woman. It's simply designed to sell more papers. not very nice, but it happens.

Quite frankly, I don't care if she is green with 3 heads. She falsely accused a man of rape. That is a disgusting thing to do. It undermines the suffering of genuine survivors, it has put an innocent man and his family through hell, and as far as I'm concerned, 12 months is not enough. She should have received the same penalty as the man she accused would have received had he been found guilty. Rape carries a life sentence. Her behaviour is abhorrent. I hope she can live with herself.

you hit the nail on the head, this man has to live with this, the rest of his life, the acusers do not reolise what it can do,as me i know, start with five years and go up that should be a good start,

Another woman is jailed for making a false sexual assault claim, this time against three police officers.

Not only did she put 3 innocent people through the hell of being falsely accused, but she has planted that seed of doubt regarding rape allegations in the minds of other people.

Interesting that in this case charges were pressed. Could it be anything to do with the fact that her allegation was against 3 police officers? She has been given a 15 month sentence. Other women who have made similar false allegations have been given fixed penalty fines. Where is the parity?

I never really paid much attention to this kind of thing before it happened to my family. But it does seem as though false allegations are increasing. I only hope that the closed-minded idiots who sat on the jury at my husband's trial will read such articles and think...."maybe i was wrong......."
