  • Historical allegations end in acquittal

I don't often read these cases anymore but I came across this one and thought I would share it for the benefit of the lurkers that can always use a bit of hope.

While not at the most serious end of the scale, 5 complainant's alleged that the defendant, a primary school teacher, had groped them in 1970's while they were reading in class.

There were allegedly some complaints made to the headmaster at the time but apparently nothing was done and no corroborating records seem to have been produced. The headmaster had since died.

It was put before the jury that the defendant had been subject to a different complaint made in the 1970's by another complainant which lead to the end of teaching career and him pleading guilty to indecent assault.

His defence, a very sensible one IMO is that he may have touched them accidentally but it wasn't sexual. He suggested the five complainants may have colluded with each other for compensation.

The jury deliberated for 9 hours and found him NG on all 11 charges.

(hopefully these are in the right order! )
