"I dreamt I went to the doctor's and she gave me eight minutes to live. I'd been sitting in the f**king waiting room half an hour." Sarah Kane (4.48 Psychosis)
Extract:
The home secretary has said the coalition government aims to "end violence against women and girls".
Theresa May - also minister for women - pledged more funding for an existing pilot scheme that helps immigrants who are victims of domestic violence.
Ms May told a Women's Aid conference she would also look into using fines criminals pay towards victims' services to open more rape crisis centres.
They would also devise "real solutions" for preventing violence, she added.
The only solution in my book to HELP prevent violence is education; clearly many parents are not equipped to do this as some are in violent relationships themselves.
I think that along with "sex education" classes there should be "relationship and parenting" classes.
Some kids grow up believing that violence and abuse in the home is the norm and perpetuate it down the line.
there is some degree of that type of thing in PHSE lessons (personal, health and social education). admittedly it makes up a minute part of the curriculum but it is a start.
