  • Rape and the fear of a certain race.

I was raped by a certain race, which I dont think is necessary to know, but now I'm very scared to be around older men of the group. Unfortunately, it seems that I come into contact with them a lot because of my city and there jobs. Anyways, has this happend to anyone? What can I do..I can still function but I feel like they are all eyeing me up and I get really sweaty, fast beating heart, and feel incredibly mad and scared.

Hello there Teresa, it is terrible to be feeling as you do, and it is also common for survivors to dislike men or similar features/race/charecteristics of the man who has done this to you. There is help avaialbel as it sounds like you may be geting some Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Symptoms, one of these symptoms is frequent and often triggers, yours being men who remind you of the one who attacked you.Have a word with your GP there are medications, and help groups, and intensive counselling avaialbe that can help you to deal with this, please dont suffer alone. There are also specialist post traumatic stress clinics around that can specifically help you with these symptoms. It is normal, your are not going mad, you juts needs lots of support to be able to deal with this.It sounds like you have an incredible amount of anger inside you which although understandable, needs to be dealt with and used in a constructive way.Pop along to your GP and have a word with them what you tell them is confidential and if you dont feel confortable you can request to see another GP without giving a reason. There are also many groups around you can phone for advice such as a rape crisis centre.Good luck, and remember, you are healing and what you are experiencing is perfectly normal, now you need to find the tools in order to be able to continue your recovery.
