  • MY FRIEND

I was wondering if you could please help me with some advice about my friend. He was being accused of indecent assault against his 2 step-daughters, he did plead guilty to touching the bottom in horse play and twanging the bra straps, nothing about it was sexual in any way they were just toy fighting. He was told that this offence was the lowest of the lower scale but still serious, he has had to sign the sex offenders registers which he is not happy with and was wondering would he have a chance of appealing, any advice would be grateful.

If you're sure your friend's telling the truth, there are websites where he may be able to get some advice like FASO at http://www.false-allegations.org.uk/

Perhaps he ought to talk to his stepdaughters to find out why they found what he was doing so offensive if he hasn't already.

As innocent as this may be, the child may not have seen it has playing at all, twanging the bra straps of your stepdaughter is not something that stepfathers do. Whatever the situation is the child obviously feels mistreated in some way, the only thing you can do is to sit down and talk to the child and ask her why she feels her stepfather is in trouble, there may be more that the child is not telling anyone about, and at the end of the day, no one makes a complaint for no reason. I suggest you call a solicitor and discuss things with them, if you are on benefits you should be entitled to free legal advice. I don?t know what the situation is with you but if he is on bail, please don?t go against the bail conditions, play it all by the rules the truth will out itself eventually, but don?t be too quick to assume you know what is really going on, there could be more from both sides of the story that you are not aware of yet. I would also suggest getting a counsellor in, whatever has happened the child is not happy. You all need to speak to the professionals with this one, and go by the book.
      Good luck.
