Help needed

We have found ourselves in A situation where a relative has been convicted of false rape accusations.
With no evidence on the accusers side. And a innocent person has been sentenced. Does anyone know where we go from here? The barrister has said there are know grounds for an unlawful appeal.
We need justice. And cannot rest until this is sorted. Please help.

I'm very sorry to hear of another wrongful conviction.

I'm afraid that grounds for appeal can be extremely difficult to find - it's deliberately that way to prevent endless appeals undermining the finality of a jury verdict. Legal aid is also very restricted.

JHM first you need to get the written Advice on Appeal and also a the transcription of the Judge's Summing Up (JSU) - you will have to pay for that. Ask at the convicting crown court how to go about that.

If trial counsel says there are no grounds, that doesn't mean it's true. However the negative Advice means that there is no legal aid. To instruct another solicitor on legal aid you would need to be able to identify grounds of appeal - almost impossible for a lay person, as grounds of appeal are not easy to identify when you don't know anything about the law and rules of evidence.

First off, get the Advice on Appeal and JSU. Your friend may have to write a letter of authority to enable you to act on his behalf.
