The police want to contact people I called when I was arrested to talk to them about the contents of the phone calls. Is this normal? Should I give permission?

I'm surprised that they are asking and also surprised that they are willing to talk to anyone who might be supportive of your version of events. Most OIC's don't seem to want to do that. I'd be inclined to talk to a specialist solicitor before responding to anything like this.

My own take would be to not stand in the way of anything that the police want to do, within the law, especially something that might point towards innocence, but I'd still run it by a solicitor first.

        Thanks Franticwithworry!

To me it seems a bit strange. I was under the impression that my phone calls where recorded when I was in the police station...I was sure I was informed of that before making them.

I am waiting for what the solicitor says before doing anything here, but I am still using the duty solicitor firm at this stage (I was going to wait and appoint a specialist when required). I may seek expert advice tomorrow before I do anything, regardless of what the duty solicitor's firm says.

        Thanks

solicitor says to the request from the police "**** off" and to be honest i agree. but from those that are more experienced in these matters, does that make sense? I think it does...but really don't know what to do??????????

Hi... since all the fumbles and f**k ups of the collapsing rape trials in December, the cps has come under a lot of scrutiny, and they’re being more thorough in collecting evidence from both sides. (In attempt to investigate more fairly? One can hope!) All pending rape allegations have had to be reviewed and I think it’s more an exercise of proving that they have gone through all the evidence properly so that there’ll be less embarrassments at court. There’s no obligation to comply. My husband and I refused to hand our phones over or give them our social media accounts, and this is what the solicitor recommended... they are looking for things to hang you with and if anything could be misconstrued in anyway then they’ll use that against you in court. The detective told us that it may go against us when the cps make their charging decision (but he may be trying to scare us) but if the experts (solicitors) are saying don’t do it, then I’m more inclined to listen to them. Don’t know if he’ll be charged yet so I can’t tell you if it was a good idea or not!!!

If it makes sense to you and is your solicitor’s advice, go with it. That’s what you have a solicitor for and why you choose one experienced with false accusations.
Everything about this process is frightening, but trust your solicitor - and your own gut feeling especially when they are saying the same thing.
