Wouldn't matter if she is only a character witness though (I don't think)

Another pair of ears is always a good idea IMO as is taking copious notes so nothing is forgotten. He should definitely take notes in the dock during the trial so he can ask his barrister at the end of a session.

Some defendants will admit to certain behaviors - even if not forming part of the charges - if their OH is not in the meeting. if the OH (or mum/family member) is present they are not likely to do that. It happens far more often than you would think.

Also, if a supporter who is a witness attends these meetings, they may try to answer for the client - this happens a lot too.

"Oh you've forgotten X, Y and Z? This is what she said / did....."

If this is a case where only two people were present at the alleged assault, then the OH / supporter was not there so cannot (and should not) contribute to that.

Then shouldnt the accused be allowed to be accompanied by someone who has no connection to the accusation?

Why should they, if they cannot help with the case?

If the accused has special needs that is a different matter, though

It wasn't to contribute to any of the meetings it was just for him to have someone with him as an extra pair of ears to remember the bits he couldn't as there was so much discussed and said he forgot most of it after meetings and all the advice on here was to take someone with you. But it's ok he's managed to get her to email the things to do after this week's meetings and managed to record some of the phone meetings so he could re listen back.

Feel more could have been done by having someone else there to push for things to happen but oh well that's all too late. We're now focusing on our last day getting prepared finishing bits off and re reading stuff whilst trying to spend time together ready for tomorrow's fight. I'd like to thank the people on here who have gave great advice and support in dark times and hope from their own stories coming to an end. I'm very positive that I will be able to give you all good news in a few days time, woth recent developments on the case looking like they can be used to prove she's lied

He could take notes of course, but if not, the solicitor / legal exec / rep would have taken notes and can easily let him have a copy

Perhaps I've been lucky but I've never been refused when I've requested a second pair of ears and eyes, either to have them or to be them. I do think this solicitor could have been more helpful though.

                It's over

So after a load of delays yesterday due to another case over running and looking at ours been moved to next September. We went in ready for trail today it started with a debate on using her bad character of previous allegations. Judge seemed to want it out there and then. Load of waiting to be told she's lied to the judge about these past allegations which police records were produced and showed she had made them after saying it wasn't her. 10 mins later were told judge had seen sense didn't want to waste a week on a case that wasn't going anywhere. And we're free to leave.

It's over 18 months of hell still fell sick to the stomach and want to cry but daren't but can breath.

To anyone going through a false allegations keep your hope and faith that liars always get seen for liars. Keep strong people aren't thick and liars always mess up.

Will be popping back on to support others through this ordeal but for now we're going home to eat and sleep and smile

What great news for you but what a pity the CPS didn't previously show the same insight that the judge did today, it would have saved a great deal of money for the MoJ and a great deal of anguish for you.

Nevertheless, an eventual victory for common sense so here are the bananas:

Great news Mr and Mrs Goodguy.

Well done that judge and shame on the CPS and police once again. Heads should roll but probably won't.

The main thing is that you can relax and enjoy the holidays.

                        You've certainly earned some bananas.

Brilliant that the judge had the sense not to drag it on any longer.

This is a very nice Christmas present but how may more examples will there be off cases dying in court once the light of truth is shone on them.
