Wrongful conviction - what can I do?

Tell me about it. I know it can be desperately unfair but when it comes to appealing convictions and sentence it's about "procedure" not factual or lurking doubt innocence.

If a barrister fails to do something the Court of Appeal will say that the LAY def should have forced him/her to do whatever it was that should have been done......

It's bizarre! So much for paying a professional expert to do their job. It flies in the face of not allowing a defendant to defend themselves and smackers if racketeering and protection in that the legal profession can charge an arm and a leg for a poor service and not be held accountable. It's ridiculous as well as bizarre.

Ive been reading your thread recebtly and just want to say I really hope everything works out for you. I know how your husband must be feeling especially being in prison.

Thanks again for the name - she has already been very helpful. I have now received a copy of the barristers Advice of Appeal letter so i can get a second opinion from her.

Thank you for your support - I feel like I am in a very bad dream at the moment. I think actually he is coping better than me. Trying to come to terms with him not being here, trying to get an Appeal, trying to sort out all the finances / home, looking for work, supporting him inside all whilst putting on a brave face to my daughter & the outside world .....

I am in a very very similar situation to you. My husband was convicted earlier this year for historic csa. We have children aged 8 and 4. I have been/am going through everything you are at present. Like you my husband was well paid and I have had to reassess our finances. I am awaiting feedback from another barrister on grounds for appeal out of time. We were unlucky that my husbands trial did make the media. I simply did not read it and have fortunately only had supportive comments to my face. Nothing has been said to the children at school. I used pretty much the exact wording that you were advised to use when telling then children. We now visit daddy every fortnight but initially it took over 3 months for him to be allowed contact even though he had been living at home until the verdict. He phones us daily and writes twice a week.

If I can offer any advice I certainly will. The pafaa website may also be of use to you.

Hi Schnoodle Thank you for your support though sorry to hear you are in the same position. I have applied to join the PAFAA forum - thank you for the signpost. It's been 4 weeks today. It's the uncertainty of knowing how my child will cope with another major trauma in her life that really worries me - she has had to deal with far more than a child ever should already. The distance means it is totally impractical for a visit for her so am waiting on a transfer closer to home. She has never not seen her dad for any length of time.

Thanks - have applied to join the PAFAA forum & will look up the FB groups.

Still waiting on advice from new solicitor - the MoJ apparently visited him on Mon & asked him to sign an authority to release papers to me. I have no idea what this is for or who instructed it. Any advice?

Travelling is a bit stressful with the children at times and our journey isnt quite as long as yours. Especially for such a short visit too but they were struggling not seeing him throughout the weeks they had no contact and I was starting to feel guilty visiting when they couldn't.

It's not me who sends the YUKU activation emails. Have you checked that you completed the YUKU form properly? Many people put in their date of birth the UK way but they only accept the US way - month date year

The Yuku form seems to have been completed correctly as my form was accepted & is 'pending approval'. Will apply again via the PAFAA website.
