  • Mobile phone advice

    Hi all

Of course the police have my mobile phone and I am paying £60 a month for it .. I pay for insurance and I can claim for a new phone for virtually anything ...

Should I do an insurance job on it (so to speak) so I can get a new one and a new sim car... Or will this make me look bad and will it scupper the investigation??.

I have been told by the OIC my case has been passed to the CPS.

Any advice will be greatly received.

It all depends. If I was you I would wait it out but probably just consider buying a cheap pay as you go phone to get on by.

    Good luck

Are you suggesting that you make a false claim on insurance? What would you say - that it has been stolen?

I can just say it is broken... I can claim for virtually anything.

Will the police still be able to get on to it even though it will probably be blocked?

That is fraud and would go against you if you are charged.

I must admit, it's a little bizarre that you're so worried about being without your phone when you are under a such a dark cloud.

However, I can answer your question (and I have "industry experience"). Your insurance may well cover you for "almost anything"....that happens.

You have not lost it, so do not report that you have to the insurer - As RF rightly says, this is fraud which if discovered, the insurer will happily report you for.

This would likely look very unfavourable for you (charachter-wise) should you go to trial for the "other matter".

If you do wish to make a claim for your phone, when reporting to the insurer you must tell them the truth (it has been confuscated by the authorities). Only then can they determine whether you have a valid claim. For what it's worth, my opinion is that you do not have a valid claim.

              Best Wishes,

If I was still in your position, I would be doing everything I could to try and keep my nose CLEAN, and avoid anything that could potentially be more trouble with the law.

I certainly would NOT be trying to think of ways to scam a new phone out of the insurance company.

I explained that my phone was being held as part of an investigation.
I bought a cheap handset and got vodafone to sort out the data, contacts etc. and carried on with the same contract/ number
They tried to bury us- they didn't know we were seeds
