Would police know he's been in prison??

Hiya, so the person who got the person to make the false accusation, previous to our 'fallout' had said that he had been in prison for sleeping with a 13 year old girl, his then girlfriend left him social didn't let him see his kids ect... his life was ruined, and he said (exact words) "if you want to make someone loose everything, that's the way to do it" - anyway, he is now with new girlfriend and has a daughter with her, and to me it didn't make much sense that he could be allowed to live with his children, we had our suspicions that he changed his name (he mentioned once he had a choice of names) and then i saw this article today

i'm not going to debate whether i agree or disagree (but if it is true then this person babysat my child before i knew anything about it!! worrying) but...... anyway.... if he has changed his name, will the police still have a record of his prison sentence because it is really important in our case, (he knew the effect it would have on our lifes, hence why he got someone to make the accusation)

this article seems to suggest that a prison sentence can be wiped from their records!!!!

if somebody is on the Sex Offender's Register they should tell the police of any changes in their circumstances, including change of name. If they don't they can go to prison for failing to notify.

Is the person in question going to be a witness for prosecution or defence as if so the police will have a PNC check and will have a record of any convictions they have as far as as Im aware. The judge doesnt always allow these though to be mentioned to the jury.

If you know that this person is to be a witness for the Crown make sure your solicitor and barrister are aware of this, and of the change of name. If he's not told the police of the name change, then his evidence could be considered "unreliable".
