    reply to public shaming

Bad enough being wrongly convicted without , as you say, the sensationalist c*** that followed and the hate campaign that was started on social media, not only against him but me as well. My whole family felt threatened but hey it didn't contravene their policy.
    Great
I am acquainted with the legal firm who pursued damages on behalf of the claimant.

I will clarify with them next week, but al social network sites have a duty of care under a whole range of legislation.

Most of it under the Public Oder Act.

Should any third party post offensive material, "likely to cause harm" there is a breach for which the originator of the content may liable to a criminal prosecution and the platform which hosts such content is vicariously liable.

If the content identifies your location (as was in this case).....or leads to your identification of you, there could well be an offence and a tort.

Stories I have found online relating to false allegations of rape being posted on Facebook. I know this is not exactly the same thing as in the OP but shows what can happen

        http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ukne...-Facebook.html

A schoolboy is feared to have killed himself after he was falsely branded a rapist on Facebook when he dared to stand up to drug dealers preying on pupils in his neighbourhood.

        • Linsey Attridge picked a photo from Facebook to back up rape ordeal lies
        • ‘We have no idea why she picked on us,' her victim tells the Mail

        http://gawker.com/viral-facebook-pos...-but-509724902

Earlier this week, Toledo resident Chad Lesko was walking around a local park when an angry stranger approached the 23-year-old and told him he had to leave. “He just walks up to me and says, ‘You’re not allowed in this park because you’re a rapist,’” Lesko recalled yesterday over the phone. “I’m like, ‘No, I’m not!’”

What Lesko didn’t know was that a Facebook post accusing him of being a wanted child molester had gone viral

See links for more. The one at the bottom is like many I see on Facebook with people furiously sharing the posts without bothering to check whether what they are saying is correct. Imagine if this is you, or your husband, or father, or uncle..... you check into Facebook one day and to your horror you see a post like this being frantically shared by stupid people who take it at face value and add to the sensationalism. Then you get bricks (or worse) through your window......

          When the worst gets worse!

          Thanks for these links.
What a total nightmare. These things get way out of control thanks to social media.
The people posting on the Internet are claiming to have found further victims!
They are trying to claim we are serial offenders!
I don't know what to do.
These "victims" know each other funnily enough!
I just want to scream out "we've done nothing wrong!!"
Now we're conscious of everything we do and say and it's become a heavy weight again.
          Blow after blow.
          I'm having a tough day.
