  • Jittery's thoughts 3, consent

    Hi all,

Just seen an article about 11 year olds getting consent advice in sex education classes. I applaud that and I'll give my reasons. Talking to the people I have told about my situation, we feel that we are of a generation where either we are uneducated or just hopeless with women.

If we want sex we are all of the opinion that if we are in the mood we will push petting as far as we can then if we get a clear sign or a "no" we go for a cold shower, if not we engage in sex. I've simplified this obviously.

I've told the guys the new cps rules; and they are horrified at the potential risks of this approach with the DPPs new guidelines on what does and what does not constitute rape.

I don't know if we are representative of my generation or just not very good at expressing our selves with women.

I am hoping that this is a subliminal admission by the judiciary system that with the massive shake up of the rape rules that widespread changes must also be made to the sex education system.

I'm just hoping now that the age of the "offender" may also be taken into consideration.

    Anybody else got any thoughts?

Not sure about "subliminal" - petting begins. The woman says "I don't want this". Petting stops and nothing else happens apart from a gentlemanly apology for misunderstanding things and an offer to make a cuppa or whatever.

Hi RF, what I was trying to say and failed, is that as the younger generations get more and more confident in expressing themselves in this area, then the issue of consent is more clear cut.

What I was thinking (my friends also) is that if sex is believed to have followed on from petting in the eyes of the accused (there was no "no" and the "victim" seemed willing) is this still now deemed in the eyes of the law to be acceptable belief/proof?

Because it seems to me that it is not having read the new cps guidelines?

What you're describing is basically what used to happen when I was younger.

In fact I think had it got as far as heavy petting and then it stopped, I would have wondered why! I mean, if I had allowed it to start I would have expected it to finish - unless he was useless of course, in which case it would have been stopped within the first minute!
