Just after some advice really

Okay so there is this girl that I kind of had a thing with back in early 2012. She had a boyfriend who she always said was really controlling and didn't let her talk to other guys and read all her texts etc. I worked with this girl and we got close and both had a crush on one another. One night she came over to my house after she had been out drinking with her friends. She spent the night but literally nothing happened other than kissing. She wanted to have sex but I said no because she has a boyfriend. Things deteriorated between us after that. I got fed up of how she had played things and didn't really want anything to do with her in that way anymore. So we carried on working together and I can't remember whether I left first or she did.

Then I saw her a few months afterwards in her new work and we exchanged a few messages, nothing particularly flirty but we just kind of said we can still be friends. After that I never had another conversation with her, but we seemed to be on good terms.

Fast forward to the present, the past Sunday she was out with her boyfriend (the same one) and they both got really drunk and ended up getting arrested. I wasn't there but my friend told me about it because it was in his workplace. Before she got arrested she apparently shouted across the pub that I had raped her and my friend knew about it. I have no idea how I even came up in their conversation since I haven't spoken to her in years.

She obviously hasn't made an official complaint with the police as I imagine something would've happened by now. But I have been told by a couple of people that I should go to the police about it. I obviously don't want her saying this about me to anyone and I'm really just so confused and hurt that anyone would say it about me, I'm still a virgin and proud of it.

So I really just want to know whether I should be going to the police first or if I should see a lawyer and get advice, or if I should just leave it. Please help

Do not go to the police as they will then be obliged to "investigate" and you could end up in court.

I think all you can do is to let it ride at the moment and see what happens.

Yeah that's what I thought too but I had other people telling me otherwise

I've visited people in prison who thought they would put a stop to the allegations by going to the police. Police speak with the complainant, who by then knows she or he has gone too far and cannot retract.

I've spent what feels like the entire day on the phone. Just got off from talking to the nicest lady from FASO.org.uk and she said I should go see a solicitor and get them aware of the situation and make sure they are able to represent me, should it ever come to it

again, do not report it to the police. If you make a complaint they are obliged to act on it, which coukd result in this woman panicking and start with a pack of lies. Make notes of date and times of events for use at a later date if needed.
