changing solicitors

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has had this problem with solicitors?..You ring them up and you request that you want a certain solicitor that belongs to that chamber, then gradually another seems to take over the case, who works at the same solicitors. Is this normal? Can we demand that we want the solicitor that we requested? We are trying to get legal aid for our son, however, we have not heard anything yet. If we don't get it before my son goes to court, very soon now, who would then represent him? Would it be just a duty solicitor and who would pay him, as I have heard that if legal aid is requested then we cannot put private money towards it?.. Additionally, regarding Barristers, can we choose our own who does legal aid, or do we have to go with who the solicitor chooses? We have contacted our son's solicitors and was told that until the CPS sends the paperwork, then they can't really do much yet!..Is this true?..we have not really had any sort of proper meeting yet with the solicitor. I am a bit worried that my son will be representing himself in court at this rate!

It's never easy is it? I'm sure someone will be able to answer you soon. We paid privately but chose poorly as it turned out. Hopefully our new Barrister will be better. Good luck with it all.
