I am just going to clear the air here first and foremost, I am not the one being a accused of it and hiding behind a "my friend" story. I came to this site seeking assistance in disputing false claims of rape. Story goes, a friend of my girlfriend was over one night, she talked to my room mate and the two were cool with one another. Now, after she left, they text one another for about a week before she returned and the two had sex, to which she consented. He asked many, many times if she was sure and she agreed each time. Well, the two did the thing and then went their separate ways. No biggie. Well, it was back in November and here we are now and he stands accused of rape. I came here to find out what could be done. She is 16, the age of consent in Arkansas, and he is 24 or 23. I forgot but definitely one of the two. Can anyone shed some light on what can be done if anything?

Hi,
As it is not yourself who is bearing the brunt of this false accusation I can be fairly concise in my response. Firstly it is great that you are supporting your friend through this ordeal; from his point of view it is good to know that you have close friends who believe in you.
To the best of my knowledge none of our members have any practical knowledge of the American legal system (as we are a UK based forum) so it is probably best that your friend consults a local lawyer who has specialist knowledge in defending these cases.
What we can do is offer emotional support in coping with the fallout from being accused but of course it would be best for your friend to sign up in his own right to benefit from this.'What doesn't kill you makes you stronger'

Hi and welcome - it is great that your friend has someone as supportive as you to help him through this.
Our legal system is different but I would imagine that anything he can gather to help his potential defence is the same - i.e. FB screenshots of her posts on her wall and what she has posted on other walls - or any other social media site; text messages between the 2 of them; emails etc and store all these electronically somewhere where the police can't get them as they will possibly seize his laptop, cell phone and other electronic devices. He needs to write down everything he can remember from their meetings and anything you or other friends can remember of conversations you heard etc. There may be cctv footage of them together somewhere too.
Please don't underestimate the emotional toll this will take on him and you as well......
We can give you emotional support on here, and general advice but not legal advice
keep strong for him and for you.... MH"Only love can light the mirror of your soul" - Chris de Burgh
