Falsely accused in West Yorkshire

Hi all,

I have been charged with rape following a lengthy police bail period. It is a completely false accusation and we are devastated.

Can somebody please reccomend a decent solicitor and barrister in the west yorkshire area, who will attend Leeds crown court?

Are we better off having a solicitor and then a barrister or would it be better off having a barrister from the start, using the direct access scheme or similar. A company I am looking at is Kingsley Brookes, in Huddersfield. Anybody know anything about them as I was reccomend them? http://www.kingsleybrookes.co.uk/

I cannot afford to pay privately otherwise I would probably use Chris Saltrese as he is fairly close, but I need legal aid.

Hi innocentperso, there is no denying that it is going to be a bumpy road from here on now. If you haven't done so already write every little bit of information that has lead to this allegation being made against you. Find out what her motive is e.g. money, revenge, attention seeking etc. Choosing the right solicitor for you is paramount. You will be giving them your life so a trust in them is a must. I would recommend you googling all the solicitors around the area. Call them up, find what they specialize in, what their recent cases were and what the outcome was.

He has has many years of experience in dealing with false allegations. His office is based in Leeds and from my understanding takes legal aid. I will PM you his details.

Many thanks for the reply. I will write down and make as many notes as possible. There are also 2 other people involved in the case in the same position.

I will stay strong and look forward to clearing my name, safe in the knowledge that I am not guilty. It's disgusting how a single lie can effect so many people so drastically.

I can't use private messaging yet as I am new member but hopefully I will get some recommendations for solicitors and barristers through this. Is there anything else I can do, the legal team can be doing prior to appearing at magistrates?

I look forward to gathering some help from others on here who have been in the same position and hopefully I will be able to do the same for others in the future.

Hi, i use to live in huddersfield and have used kingsley brookes solicitor on other matters, they are very good, i couldnt tell you if they have any one that specializes in these types of cases

That's good that you've had positive experiences with kingsley brookes. Who did you use there? How were they? Pm me if you don't wish to post it please. I'm trying to decide if I want a separate sol and barrister or to just use a barrister.

We are due in magistrates soon, what are we to expect at the first appearance here and the first one at crown please?

Any help is truly appreciated, such a horrid experience to go through as my life is just on hold!

Also, for CRB checks...would a charge show up? As I am due to get a job that requires a check.

I used mark, he's very good but like i said it was for a different matter

i am currently in the same boat as you but i have attended magistrates where it will get sent to crown, at crown court they set a preliminary hearing (plea) date also with trial dates

Hi - I would be a bit wary about using a solicitor who's good in other areas ... he might be excellent but it's probably not his speciality. A bit like consulting an ear, nose throat specialist for a broken arm. Perhaps there is someone in the same firm who is though.
