  • I'm being blackmailed by a girl!

    Hello

Does anyone have any advice on blackmail as i'm being threatened by an ex? She is asking for money and saying that she will go to the police and tell her i tried to rape her if i don't pay! This has been going on for 3 months and is killing me! I'm looking for a lawyer or some help to me get out of this nightmare! Any thoughts or ideas who i can speak to?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,

A nasty worrying situation for you! Hopefully she won't go as far as carrying out her threat but just in case, on the assumption that she doesn't actually come to your door and threaten you verbally, record any future phone conversations and save any texts or emails from her.

You could also contact a lawyer now and make a statement expressing your concerns; if this is made in advance of any allegation against you it will be powerful evidence in your favour. There is a thread in the useful information section of the forum with members recommendations of suitable firms.

Incidentally in this instance it is best not to approach the police yourself; at the very least they will go and take a statement from your ex which may well precipitate the allegation.

        Hi SOS

What a piece of work your ex is! CH has given you great advice. I would copy all emails, screen shots of FB etc and save to a stick or disc. This isn't just about her threats but about showing your relationship was ok before you broke up or why you broke up.

I agree with CH that although blackmail is an offence I wouldn't risk kicking off an investigation into her claims.

Must have been a nasty shock for you.

Wow - really sorry this has happened.
save all those emails and anything else you may have which will help in a defence for you, electronically somewhere where plod won't get them and don't tell them anything else which will help you right now. odd advice I know but plod has conviction targets to meet and that is their aim...have a look at the sticky below for where to go on the forum for recommended sols and those to avoid!! Find out what your situation is regarding legal aid - some sols don't do legal aid work. If/when you are invited to be interrogated at the police station, you MUST have a sol with you. Answer only what plod asks you and don't offer anything that you think will help you at this stage....save that for later should you come to need it...

              Hi SOS.

The only thing I can add to the excellent advice you already received is "welcome".

              And once again:
Print screen and copy all these emails (texts,...) on a usb key.
Share all your evidence with a solicitor but not the police.
Do not forget to keep a copy for yourself.
              Non,je ne regrette rien.
