Hi guys,
I just thought I'd share what ive been through in the last week or so following another awful story of revenge that's ruined everything and still has the potential to get worse. I'm hoping someone with some experience with a similar situation or and legal training could shed some light on where i stand..
I had the police turn up at 6.30 in the morning last Wednesday, inconveniently it was my morning off work so a lie in was on the cards but i was arrested under suspicion of rape of 3 of my ex's dating back as far as 2009, an allegation of burglary and threats to kill were thrown in for good measure along with a count of taking indecent images of a minor (cant remember the exact wording, but this was to do with one of my first girlfriends back in '09).
As per most stories on here i was karted off to a police station on the other side of the county, booked in and thrown in a cell by 8am after some mugshots, DNA and fingerprints being taken. I was held for a little over 12 hours, burnt through about 4 and a half hours of recording tape being questioned (i refused a solicitor as i had nothing to hide) and bailed until the end of February. All of my belongings such as iPhone, laptop etc. were seized and are still in the system for an undisclosed amount of time following a search warrant being executed. I had requested that the arresting officer contact my work to inform them that i wouldn't be able to attend while maintaining my privacy as much as possible. This didn't happen. Work called home when i was AWOL in the afternoon, and i was informed upon being bailed that work did know my whereabouts but only because officers had executed the search warrant at my workplace- a large corporate office of a major IT company. Needless to say i was called up the next morning before attending work and dismissed due to being in my probation period.
So throughout this 24 hours we have my incarceration for 14 hours from the moment of arrest, seizure of most of my worldly belongings, questioning of the most intimate details of my life for a little extra humiliation and the loss of my job because of the whole situation. A lot for an innocent person with no criminal history to have to go through I'm sure most will agree with..
A month ago i was informed through friends and family that it was being gossiped at a local coffee shop that i had raped someone. I thought nothing of it after making a few inquiries with ex's and drawing a blank. I was aware that all 3 of the ex girlfriends had been in contact and it was general knowledge that (without sounding too dramatic and paranoid) there was a plot to get me. Again i thought nothing of this as im not one to be slighted by threats and rumours.
All 3 have motive for the false rape allegations. The first was charged with assault after punching me repeatedly in the face following the break up. The second miscarried with our child (yes we were trying for a baby at her request when i supposedly raped her) which she blamed on me due to stress and knew she had a small claims case coming up against her for money owed. The third has an extremely troubled past and there was a disagreement about her capability to care for her 1 year old after i spent most of my time with her cleaning her flat and looking after the baby. In regards to the photo's of a minor- this was back in 2009, the girlfriend at the time was 17 and i think i was 18 or 19. She had recorded us together in bed on a mobile device or laptop and appears to have made an allegation that i created said images or video without her consent. All allegations happened at the time i was in a relationship with each. All 3 girls have been in contact in the last 6 months over facebook trying to be friendly.
Im pretty certain that when i return from bail and re attend the police station evidence and investigation will show they have been in contact with each other over facebook along with my facebook messages from them which i happily provided my login for them to look at with my consent (not that they needed it!)
How does anyone see this playing out.. Am i likely to be remanded into custody and charged following my return to the station pending a court date?
Also repercussions on the so called "victims"- Can i sue for defamation of character, loss of earnings etc. to reclaim damages financially as well as seeking a criminal trial for the false allegations (i believe this falls under perverting the court of justice)
Any feedback or information would be really helpful even if its not reassuring as nobody seems to be able to assist- including my solicitor who will be joining me at the end of February.
Thanks in advance.
Steve.
