Paul have you thought about reporting the person who made threats to your Son on Twitter?

I can understand you wanting to take out a civil action as I know how upsetting a accusation like this is but I would find out what you need to know from the police first.
I believe it's an expensive way to go and would the girl have the money to pay if you won is probably the next thing to think of.
Maybe worth speaking to your Lawyer once you get some kind of disclosure.

As for your son. There are potential 'problems' in his future.

Although he was held and questioned and then released there will still be a 'file' open on him. Any further allegations, even if they are also complete nonsense, will leave him open to further question and most likely charge. The 'Moorov Doctrine' will then come into play (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moorov_v_HMA) and he could find himself facing a trial...

The other issue that may now arise is Enhanced Disclosure. Depending on what he was planning to do with his life he may now find it difficult to get certain jobs.

You REALLY need to find out how the case against your son was cleared up. It is of major importance to his future. Something lying on file as 'pending' or similar will be interpreted as 'ongoing/not closed' where as 'no crime' would be more favourable although still open to question (misinterpretation by a potential employer) in extreme circumstances.

It's sad to say it but your boy now has 'marks' against his name on databases. He is going to have to be forever careful. Cops like patterns!
