whats the difference between a complaint of rape to the police and a statement

If an alleged rape victim does not want the complaint to proceed and had only reported the rape but not made a formal statement would she have to make a statement retracting or canceling the complaint.I really would appreciate some honest advice and please do not be little my sincere request for help on this matter

Hi,

The CPS have the discretion to proceed with the case even if the alleged victim withdraws the allegation. Whether they would actually do this depends on (a) the reason why the allegation was withdrawn and (b) whether they have any other evidence apart from the word of the complainant.

Also they are more likely to continue with the prosecution if the alleged victim is a minor as they may already have a video interview which would substitute for a statement.
