Sorry but can't find reference on DNA/Fingerprint Retention

Did someone (RF?) post the specific guidelines which Chief Constables have regarding retention of DNA and fingerprints? I seem to recall there was a fairlly recent change? Am I blowing bubbles

not sure who posted the original, parliament is supposed to be changing the law regarding DNA retention this month. The change is
If you were NFA, never charged, charges were dropped or you were found not guilty then the DNA must be destroyed after 3 years. Plod may apply to a judge to retain the DNA for a further 2 years under certain circumstances. Not sure what the certain circumstances are or if the person must be informed that plod have done this.
I dont know about fingerprint retention.
I do know that the forensic service were trying to say that it would be impossible to destroy the DNA as the dna is stored together.
