If you have already started paying out (or signed some sort of contract) then unfortunately you won't be able to switch to public funding because you cannot mix the two.
Below is one of the application forms that need to be completed and signed by the client to obtain public funding:

Scroll down to Page 2 and you will see the option part where the new appeal solicitor would have ticked the "Appeals and Reviews" bit.
The solicitor should have known about this. I am so sorry to have had to tell you about this but I thought it best to post this up in case others are thinking about doing the same as you. People should be told if they are eligible for funding.
