Applying for renewal of sia badge whilst on a charge

Hello again. I've been fairly active on here today and I have to admit I've been finding it very interesting. My b/f is currently on a rape charge and his case may not come to trial until March next year. The problem is his SIA badge runs out in August and he doesn't know whether or not he will be able to renew it while he's under the charge. Does anyone else have experience of this?
