  • help please , is there a free / cheap method for obtaining copys of court case transcripts

I’m Wondering, does anyone know how to obtain a judges summing up in a case?
I have tried google , yahoo etc.

Basically the case in December 2010 ,was thrown out for abuse of process & delay, it was not in the news.

I have contacted the people who keep the records but there cost for transcribing is £150+vat per hour ! So I guess it would be pretty expensive.

I was hoping all court cases where a matter of public record and perhaps at the worse, I would have to travel to the court in question and request to see a copy of the court case transcript.

If the case was thrown out, why do you need the court transcripts?
As far as I know, obtaining transcripts is very costly, usually about £2,000 - 3,000 for a 2 or 3 day trial. A barrister might be able to apply for public funding in order to get them. Usually they asked for if you want to appeal the verdict, but as your friend's case seems to have been dismissed I am not sure why you would want them?

When I looked into it it was crazy expensive. I just gave up. I don't think they become publc record for a long time (like 100 years). Sorry I can't be more help!

hi , it was thrown out on grounds that would apply to my friends situation , it was not his case , i imagine the summing up would point out the valid arguments they had for the case been abuse of process .

If your friend has been charged and he has a solicitor instructed then if the sol feels they are relevant to the case, then he/she should make an argument, or instruct the barrister to make an argument in order to apply for the funding to pay for the relevant transcripts.

They do not come free - they have to be paid for somewhere down the line.
