Most people are there for their own protection. It could be that the nature of their offence would make them a target for other inmates. Some are there because they are related to police officers, MPs, judges, lawyers, celebrities - and some because they are policemen/MPs/judges/lawyers/celebrities. Others are there because they are emotionally fragile and could not cope with life on the Main. And finally some are there because they have got into debt on The Main and therefore need protection.

One of the guys R was in with was there because he was a serial burglar and had borrowed too much from people on the Main. He was serving a 4 year sentence for breaking into a shed and stealing some tools. He had been out of prison for less than a week when he did this. He couldn't cope with life outside prison - he was totally institutionalised.

So not everyone on the VP wing is a child molester/rapist/murderer.

At Strangeways there are 2 VP wings, one for non-sex offenders and the other is generally for all sex offenders.

        Update!

Hey all thank you for all your advice, it's calmed me somewhat!! And Hubby gave it a read too and felt better for reading it all and has found companionship in this has not just happened to him...

Well today was supposed to be the first day of the trial so mentally prepared, suited and booted - turned up to find that the prosecution was still on another case and also the prosecution had to go to hospital as she had an infection of the eye.... My own thoughts were - thank god we don't have that rotteweiler against us however, maybe it's a case of better the devil you know than you don't!!!
Case was postponed until toms morn with a new barrister for cps. Not sure if this is good or bad.
The judge approached our barrister and asked if this could be settled wi Hubby agreeing to some of charges against him and facing a possibly reduced sentence.
My Hubby is determined that he didn't do this and said that in no way would he admit to something he has not done. Whilst I am in ore of his determination, I find the shorter sentence appealing.
It's not my decision and in his shoes I would never admit to something I hadn't done so I understand his mind set.
So tomorrow again suited and booted will attend court.
        Feeling numb numb numb.
Guess there is no right or wrong way to cope with this- but I need massive amounts of strength right now.

Thank you for all the positive thinking, Will keep you updated

No...we mentioned it to the barrister at the time - he agreed that they were definitely snoozing, but he was very confident that the verdict would be Not Guilty and he advised us not to rock the boat.
After the trial he said that because we hadn't brought the issue up at the time, it would not be grounds for appeal.

                        Update

Well all the year in waiting for this trial and the jury have heard all the evidence- it's clear to me that my husband is innocent. The holes in her story have been pointed out- numerous times to the jury. Don't know if this sounds right but am so proud of my hubby for handling his questioning in the way that he did. He was honest- and let's hope the jury sees this.
Have my doubts about the judge, am not far from finding out how to lodge a complaint however, as pointed out by our barrister all his huffing and puffing and clock watching and interrupting with his own questions- and the bored faces he pulled will not be on the recording of the trial.
How do these judges get away with this?
I think he is doing this to help prosecution....
Anyhow, am looking forward to his summing up tom morn to see how fair it is, then it's that dreaded awaiting the jury decision.
It feels very wrong to be away from my hubby tonight.

My mum has pointed out the toll it's taking on me, am just hoping with the right result tomorrow - it will only be our marraige that needs focusing on and not an appeal.

Hopefully the jury will make it's decision tomorrow and put an end to this.

Am due to go on hols next week - am praying this ash cloud buggers off as am sure 10 days away is what the doctors ordered!!

Thank you for the positive thoughts-

Fingers crossed, round what ever you believe in the jury sees sense.

Will keep you updated. In the mean time am enjoying a vodka and coke to send me nicely into land of nod.

                        Night x

                                Not guilty!!!!!!!!!!!!

Am very pleased to tell you that we got the not guilty verdict. From Seven counts- four were unanimous and three were majority! Thank god the jury saw through her lies when the police didn't!!!
We are very very happy and realise that this could be very easily a very different story.
It's not really sunk in yet - still feel very anxious and it feels almost unrealits over- just like thAt - a year after this whole debarcle began!!!!
The children and even the dog have a big smile, it feels like we have been given a second chance and that am seeing every situation thru brand new eyes.

If there is anyone out there that would like to ask questions my Hubby and I are more than happy to answer them- I realise how important this site has been to us over the months and will always try to help others thru this awful, horrible and heart wrenching time.

We are going to just recover for a few weeks then look into taking hubbys employers to a tribunal due to unfair dismissal.
If anyone knows anything in this area would be greatful of some pointers!!!!!

Yipeeeee yay yay from now- a not soooo anxious, anxious !!!!
