At the moment it is unlikely a solicitor would be able to do much for you as you have not yet been charged so there will be no paperwork. Plus you would not get funding until after charge so anything a solicitor did for you (such as chasing police for updates) would either have to be paid for privately or done pro bono (free).
Would you PM me the town as I don't know of any experienced sols in Lincs as such but might be able to find one close by who will still take on such a case,k if it goes to trial.
Since LSC slashed public funding many decent solicitors had to stop undertaking publicly funded trial work as they are now paid by the case, rather than by the hour. The solicitor I work for puts all the hours God sends into his trials and not being paid for all of the work makes it not viable.
I attended a trial not along ago and he and the QC were still working at 3am some mornings. That was privately paid and they really did earn their money several times over. That resulted in the case being thrown out by the Crown after out QC argued with the judge!
