ive been told that the cps have to be almost sure they will get a conviction before they charge you , and if they cant prove the girls allegations then surlely they wont drag two 14 yr olds through the courts . surely a good barrister will make mincemeat out of her story .

They're unlikely to drag two 14 year olds through the courts, but if your son had been an inch over 18, they most certainly would. Even on the most tenuous of evidence they'll "give it a whirl."
As said, concentrate on the positives; he hasn't been arrested, hasn't been charged and hasn't been bailed. That's three things that should speak volumes.

If only that was true!
The test to take a case through prosecution is "is there a realistic prospect of conviction?" I think that the last hoop that has to be jumped through is the DPP: Director for Public Prosecutions.
Police - CPS - DPP and Crown then prosecute.
I attended a trial in Coventry a few weeks ago where the Crown QC withdrew the evidence from the case saying that "this is not a true bill" and that the DPP should not have allowed it to go to trial. The judge ordered an investigation as to why this happened.People Appealing Convictions of Sexual Offences ~http://www.pacso.co.uk

Yep it's normal and "how long is a piece of string?" Nobody can know how long it takes - anything from a few weeks to several months depending on various factors.People Appealing Convictions of Sexual Offences ~http://www.pacso.co.uk

Hopefully this case will be NFA'd quickly and then everybody will know that she has lied about it going to trial - this will put serious doubts into people's minds as to the reliability of anything else she has to say.

Nobody can answer the question as to how long this will take to either come to charge or be NFA'd. It's so easy to make false allegations that to be fair the police are swamped.
If your lad has a solicitor it might be a good idea for him to ask him/her to contact the police to ask for an update.People Appealing Convictions of Sexual Offences ~http://www.pacso.co.uk

hi everybody ....still no news to report except the oic told us today that she was going to get a preliminary meeting with the cps ..... ? i dunno what she meant or what a preliminary meeting is . four weeks since my son was interviewed and three weeks since the girls was , since then nothing seems to be happening , they see each other everyday in school like nothings happened ( except they dont talk to each other ) i find it strange that in this situation they are allowed to be in the position where they see each other every day .

Hi WP,
Difficult to read anything into anything but I would take it optimistically that the OIC is keeping you in the loop, she obviously is concerned about your concerns.
A preliminary meeting could mean anything, but I'd bet my Sunday lunch that the OIC will be asked what she thinks about it, so hopefully all the positive points that you have raised with her will come up in discussion.'What doesn't kill you makes you stronger'
