we want to let you know what has been happeneing in our sons case. Basically he was asked to go to the police station last weekend - when he got there (we were there too!), the policewoman took him in and after 10 minutes came out to us with our son and told us what was happening - our son was no longer a suspect, he was not being charged with anything- he was now a witness for the prosecution, although they couldnt go into the nature of the charge except it was very serious. He gave a 8 page statement and as we left the policewoman came to us and told us they had always known there was something not right, but because he had been accused they had had to interview him - she said we should go home, try to relax, we had nothing to worry about.
next thing - our son gets a phone call from same policewoman (must admit, she HAS been good throughout this), saying she was just letting him know that the girl was being arrested and charged under caution ! At this point we were told our son would have to give evidence as a witness in the case.
Anyway, the initial hearing at the magistrates court is on Monday, then obviously i understand it would go to crown court.
However, the best news i think is this - the police are using him as a "witness" - Anyway, they said his name should not initially be read out as he is just down as a witness statement - as is his friend who was with him that night. It then transpires that the charge is of perverting the course of justice - it is in relation to a false accusation of rape - AGAINST ANOTHER MAN! And although she then went onto accuse our son too, he is being used as a witness to prove their case in that she also falsely acused him too - but he is not the initial "victim" in this story - apparently the other false accusation happened before our son met her but she then added him onto her "hit list".
We cant believe the turn of events and how this is developing every day - we also realsie we are lucky it is happening so fast - especially after hearing your experiences.
Our son seems much happier after today .
