The success of Cliff Richard’s defamation action against the BBC may have implications for those falsely accused (and it was noteworthy how quickly Laura Kuensberg(?) changed the subject when he mentioned ‘false accusers’ in his interview with her)
The judge’s ruling that the BBC were wrong in publishing his name before arrest or charge occurred could become case law and [quote] it will be a brave editor who does this in the future [unquote]
Many of those falsely accused are not celebrities and won’t be newsworthy but nevertheless it is a common concern expressed on the forum that the details will get into the local press and so Cliff’s action may bring some reassurance and of course it has brought the whole scandal of FA’s into the forefront of media attention (despite Laura’s best efforts!)
