As from January 2013 it has been possible for members of the public who require legal advice to contact barristers directly rather than via solicitors and it may well be that members of the forum would find this facility useful especially in the period of time when they are on bail awaiting a CPS decision.
Needless to say this advice would need to be paid for and will be more expensive than using a solicitor but I can think of several reasons (such as whether certain evidence would be admissible in court) where it would be worthwhile.
Obviously the usual care should be taken to select a barrister in the particular specialised field required.
