The CPS, like many other government departments, is in the throes of budget cutting and subsequent reorganization.
A policy document has been issued on this process and does make fascinating reading although it runs to nearly 100 pages!
Especially interesting are the statistics of how many cases are dropped pre and post charge (pages 7 - 10) though the report doesn't distinguish between categories of crimes.
