    Funny how they're "unreliable and cannot be used in courts" but they're suddenly reliable enough to get you an extra anal probing by your local defective detective.

        Other news reports claim that this will be used pre trial. It will be interesting to see if this is true of course. I will not be holding my breath as the Government will want the police and CPS to be meeting rape conviction targets regardless of true guilt or innocence in these matters.

        Obviously lie detectors will prove that some of the complainants are lying and some of the defendants are completely innocent.

        How will that keep voters sweet?

        If ONLY they knew that millions of pounds out of tax payers money (if not more) is spent on lawyers; trials; judges; appeals; costs of keeping innocent people in prison...........

          When you say pre trial do you mean to see whether to take to trial or not ?

            Pre-Trial means "before Trial". That's all. Anything can happen pre-trial, during or at the conclusion of it that can bring about it's downfall. It rarely happens but sometimes it does. The sol I work for (with his QC) has a proven track record of that.

            Unfortunately he cannot afford to undertake publicly paid trials as sols are no longer paid by the hour for that work - so he would be working for nothing for 3/4 of his time. He can obviously undertake privately funded cases and he will in most cases accept instalments.

              Just because Jeremy Kyle uses them doesn't make them suitable for police.

              Queue endless number of clients searching for "How to pass a lie detector test"

                The problem is the Jeremy Kyle show doesn't go far enough to explain to people that polygraph testing doesn't give factual answers. They give a set of readings which need to be interpreted, so two people could read the same thing and come up with different answers.

                The other point is that those in favour of it declare it is 94-97% accurate, whereas others claim the accuracy is only 66%.

                At best, that means that 34 out of every 100 would be declared as liars when they're actually telling the truth.
