Hi Scared
having faced a similar situation my advice would be as follows:
I would not go to the police as yet as you may well trigger off an investigation simply because you have reported thr situation to them.
Go and see a solicitor, explain the situation to them and get them to write an afffadavit for you to swear out covering the relevent aspects of what has happened to date. The sooner you do this the better. FASO might well be able to recommend a solicitor in the area in which you live who has some experiance in these matters.
Try not to worry about what she has said and get on with your life, I would certainly explain the situation to your fiance, as if anything does come of this she will know what has happened.
If this woman repeats this threat get your solicitor to write to her and tell her that if she continues to malign your reputation you willl take legal action against her.
If she does continue with this line of behavior, you might want to consider seeking an injunction againts her via the County Court System. This is reasonably easy to do and would certainly make most people stop and think.
The longer it takes for her to make any report to the police [assumimg she ever does] from the date you get tis matter recorded by a solicitor the better as it raises the question as to why she delayed.
Both the above options run the risk of "aggrevating" this woman, but you have to consider the fact that she could suddenly decide to make this allegation for any reason at any time, if the matter is already known by a solicitor or an injunction is in place her actions may be viewed in a diffferent light.
Hopefully the matter will just go away but I think that getting the threat on record with a solicitor is an essential precaution.
Regards
Val
