These cases won't stop happening as the Government want to bang up as many people as possible to pander the the no smoke moral panic brigade. Given there are complaints daily about the lack of "enough" rape convictions by rape crisis centers and Government ministers, they have to be seen to be doing "something," so regardless of just how stupid an allegation is they will do their best to proceed with it.
Let's not forget that the criteria for a case to go to trial is not "have they done this?" but "do we have enough 'evidence' to secure a conviction?"
After a wrongful conviction, it is not about guilt or innocence, truth or lies, but about how "safe" the conviction is. As a consequence, innocent people cannot go to retrial because defence was rubbish, and cannot have a "2nd bite of the cherry" and guilty people can walk free due to some abuse of process or a misdirection.
Goodbye British Justice, old friend. It was nice knowing you while it lasted.......
