Hackers pretending to be BT

For those with BT: Just had this from a trusted source:

Hi all

A hacker just tried to get access to my computer (they phoned me and identified I was BT and my first name - but I was over cautious all along) he was saying I was being bombarded by all sorts of bad programmes - by saying they were BT and asking me to go into www.teamviewer.com/ee/index.asp that gives remote access to my computer and said nothing about BT - when I challenged him (sounded like a call centre) he disconnected and I reported it to BT. BT gave me a number 0800661441 to report any further instances - watch out.

Please be aware that this is not BT calling but a HACKER.

Just to add, my mum fell prey to a similar scam recently, although they pretended to be from Virgin. They already had her name and knew that her broadband was with Virgin and persuaded her to hand over her bank details. They got two lots of £60 from her.
Note to all: NEVER give out your details. If you think they might be genuine, always ask for a number so that you can call them back.

^ And then google that phone number before dialing it. If it comes up with the company in question, go to the web site to make sure and then you might be ok. If it comes up with forums with people discussing the number, AVOID!

I've given up answering the phone, I let the answerphone do it. I'm on tps, but still get cold calls.
