Fake rape report inquiry officer resigns
A detective has resigned from Greater Manchester Police after he was accused of faking a scientific report into a rape case, it has emerged.
Det Con Dominic Griffiths handed in his notice in October, shortly after he was put on restricted duties as the force started to investigate the allegation.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) said up to 10 other cases were having to be re-examined.
He could face criminal charges, an IPCC spokesman said.
The IPCC is managing GMP's investigation into the allegation, which came to light at the end of September.
All the cases in which Mr Griffiths was involved are currently ongoing.
Defendants and complainants have been informed, an IPCC spokesman confirmed.
Now he has resigned, Mr Griffiths will not face disciplinary action, but depending on the outcome of the investigation he could still face prosecution.
An IPCC spokesman said: "The investigation began after Greater Manchester Police made a referral to the IPCC as a result of concerns within the force about the work of the officer.
"As the matters under investigation relate to ongoing criminal cases it would be inappropriate for the IPCC to comment further at this stage."
